A Path to Shore: Wrong Without Turning

Shore Chapel is abandoned and attracts no visitation. This composition follows a forgotten footpath leading to a disused Baptist Chapel. The composition is made entirely from field recordings captured during time spent on the path. The composer also took to creating pieces of landscape sculpture (a cairn and stone circle) in order to extract further sonic materials within the recordings.
This composition details elements of two geolocative compositions. The geolocative tool SonicMaps was utilised here to create two identical, virtual sound walks. One in the original rural location and the other also leading to a Baptist church within an urban landscape (Ardwick, Manchester). The hope here is to create a virtual green space for communities through highlighting the sonic richness of a forgotten path.
This is an effort to pursue the objective of rewilding urban spaces using sound-art and composition.
