Wild Chorus: Manchester Museum

by Harry Ovington

/

about

Composed and produced by myself, this piece is made up of environmental soundscape recordings that were captured during the first national lockdown and the following months in 2020. The piece seeks to highlight the reduced anthropogenic noise during this time and allows listeners to reflect back on a time of environmental rest.
Being mainly made up of recordings of the dawn chorus, in and around the Calderdale Valley, the piece also includes the sonification of weather pattern datasets from this time. The aim here was the create a form of music that acts as a 'lockdown time capsule'.
Thanks to Manchester Museum for commissioning the piece. It will also be on physical exhibition upon the reopening of the museum.
